Relax and Refresh

Some stays are all about relaxing, refreshing and recharging

Sometimes we just need to stop - no road trips, no day trips, no airports, rushed meals or planned days. We need to take time for ourselves, to read, wander, eat delicious nourishing food, enjoy a glass of wine over a sunset, or just sit.

Or we can go deeper - treat ourselves to a few nurturing spa treatments or massages, meditate, take time to lie by the pool, or a waterfall, or take a gentle walk for a nearby view.

The secret to doing this is to stay in places where the location is the attraction - an island, a beach, the rainforest, the outback - with an on-site spa, a consciously designed menu, fine service and hospitality and minimal distractions. Turn off your phone, leave your watch by the bed, and just let the days unfold.

Some places have private beaches where you can be dropped, with a picnic - just you and your companion and the gently lapping sea. Other places have a waterfall, a high hill, a long view or a quiet garden. Most luxury resorts and lodges now have a day spa, or offer a spa package. And cuisine is increasingly about eating fresh, local and nourishing food, complimented with beautiful Australian wines.
